BHC Foundation Contribution Proposal Guidelines

The Black Hills Corporation Foundation will consider requests of $5,000 or more. All requests — regardless of their amount — should first be directed to the External Affairs Manager for your area. Click here for a list of External Affairs Managers.

The External Affairs Manager will review the request with the business unit leadership. If the business unit believes that the proposal merits consideration by the BHC Foundation, the request will be forwarded to Foundation Board, with a donation amount recommendation. The Foundation meets quarterly to review proposals.

In 2009, the Foundation will meet June 18, September 18 and December 17. All requests for funding must be turned in to the External Affairs manager in your area at least two weeks before a Foundation meeting is scheduled.

A BHC Foundation contribution request should contain the following items:

  • An application form. Click here for the application.
  • A brief description of the organization, its history, purpose and number of people served
  • A copy of its tax-exempt status letter under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code
  • A list of officers and board of directors
  • The purpose of the funds
  • If project support is requested, a timeline for implementation and evaluation of project should be included
  • The expected result and how it will be measured
  • A complete budget for the organization/project, including a listing of major contributors
  • A reviewed or an audited financial statement for the organization's previous fiscal year
  • A notation indicating whether or not the organization belongs to the United Way
